Former prime minister of Japan and current president of the Tokyo Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games Yoshirō Mori has recently announced his vision for the Tokyo Olympics in 2020, and it seems to star some of our favourite anime characters.

Mori has revealed that the committee wishes to tap onto the popularity of anime and manga characters as they are more well known than other aspects of Japanese culture. Characters such as Goku from Dragon Ball, Luffy from One Piece, Naruto from Naruto and Sailor Moon from Sailor Moon will be used as mascots to promote the Olympic Games. Mori is keen on the idea of holding a parade featuring them and other mascots to draw more attention and positive reception of the Games.

These characters, along with Shin chan, Astroboy, Jibanyan (Yokai Watch), Cure Miracle and Cure Magical (Mahou Girls Precure!) will be featured on official Tokyo Olympics 2020 merchandise.
