DC has been catching up with its comic book counterpart Marvel in terms of live-action cinematic releases, especially with the success of the recent Wonder Woman movie. However, when it comes to animated cartoons, DC is indisputably faring better than Marvel.
Here is Akiba Press’ round-up of DC highlights from SDCC 2017:
A Justice League panel was held with five of its members – Batman (Ben Affleck), Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot), Flash (Ezra Miller), Cyborg (Ray Fisher), and Aquaman (Jason Momoa) – turning up for it.
Check out the third Justice League trailer below:
The trailer features more of the main villain, Steppenwolf, and hints at the possible return of a certain Man of Steel. The demise of the Green Lantern Corp, a group of worthy individuals that wield the Green Lantern ring in order to protect the galaxy, was also revealed.
Another panel highlight includes the unveiling of a new Justice League poster, done in the style of fellow DC artist Alex Ross.
The movie also stars Henry Cavill as Superman, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Jeremy Irons as Alfred Pennyworth, J.K. Simmons as Commissioner Gordon, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, Willem Dafoe as Aquaman’s advisor Nuidis Vulko, Connie Nielsen as Queen Hippolyta and Diane Lane as Martha Kent.
The movie is set to be released on 17 November 2017.
DC has announced a solo Flash movie, Flashpoint, that will most likely follow the Flashpoint (2011) storyline. It follows main protagonist Barry Allen as he attempts to change the past by saving his mother from being murdered, only to see his interference bringing about an alternate future that spells dire consequences for his fellow Justice League teammates.
The movie also features one of Flash’s most renowned enemy Eobard Thawne, who is otherwise known as the Reverse Flash.
There is currently no release date for the Flashpoint movie.
Warner Animation Bros. has announced earlier this year that a third season for its beloved series Young Justice will be launched, much to the delight of many fans. During the panel, executive producer Greg Weisman revealed its season line-up, one that is filled with many familiar and new faces to the team.
Returning characters include Superboy, Wonder Girl, Beast Boy, Static, Nightwing, Artemis, Arsenal and Blue Beetle.
New additions to the team are Spoiler, Thirteen and Arrowette.
The new season is set to consist of 26 episodes. An official release date has yet to be confirmed, but a Young Justice: Outsiders movie will be premiering on Netflix in 2018.
