(Major Spoilers Ahead!!!)
Well, I’ve just finished playing Guardians of the Galaxy and I have to say, Telltale has given us yet another stellar project. After churning out numerous games from comic book franchises (The Walking Dead, Fables, Batman), they’ve acquired their latest band of misfits; the Guardians.
Episode 1 starts out with a distress signal from the Nova Corps, requesting for help after being attacked by the Guardians’ ever popular arch-nemesis and the fight sequence is all too familiar, with the quick-time prompts and rapid mouse-clicking to fire. If you’d watched the trailer for Episode 1: Tangled in Blue, you’d have guessed that Thanos would be playing a big part in this series. And you’re not wrong, his death in the beginning does set the pathway for the entire story.
After defeating Thanos, the motley crew end up with the Eternity Forge; a mystical artifact with powers yet to be revealed to the 5. Unbeknownst to them, a powerful new enemy too seeks it out for her own evil means.
Then comes one of the first big choices, do you sell Thanos’ body to the Nova Corps or The Collector to pay off your massive drinking debt? Just like the rest of the Telltale games, your choices do make a big impact on how the game is played. Prepare to make some difficult choices as the game forces you to take sides with either of the Guardians when they fight.
Facing a brand new enemy, uncovering the artifact’s secrets AND struggling to keep the team from falling apart? Peter Quill certainly has his work cut out for him.
Episode 1 of Guardians of the Galaxy: The Telltale Series is out today for iOS, Android, Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC.
