Pokémon Ultra Sun and Moon? More Like Ultra Disappointed, Son.

New versions of old Pokémon games announced during their Pokémon Direct Stream.

Last night, Nintendo held a Pokémon Direct livestream and just like any other Pokémon fan out there, I got myself all hot and bothered from my speculations. I was thinking we would finally get a main Pokémon game on the Switch and get to see what a full proper main game would be like on a console. So when the livestream finally began, they went into a typical heartwarming Nintendo-style trailer for Pokkén Tournament DX for the Switch. Also, they added 5 new Pokémon – Croagunk, Darkrai, Decidueye (My favourite starter from generation 7), Empoleon (My favourite starter from generation 4) and Scizor (who doesn’t like Scizor?).

After featuring Pokkén for 3 minutes, they squeezed in the Pokémon Ultra Sun and Moon announcement in 20 seconds. I’ll admit just seeing the the logos for the new game got me excited and the fact that the release date was 17 November made me want to go out and buy a Switch stat. They said that the game would have an alternate storyline and they even showed the game’s cover legendaries – Solgaleo and Lunala. Their new forms certainly escalated my hype levels to Alolan Exeggutor heights.

Then it hit me, they did not mention the Switch once during their announcement- the games will only be released on the 3DS. While they did mention that there is more to the announcement, it was definitely a “blue balls” moment for me. I just hope that they will reveal something more impressive (like remakes for Diamond/Pearl) during Nintendo’s press conference during E3.
