The manga will be the first new Fullmetal Alchemist story in seven years! Also, fans attending theatrical screenings will get to receive copies of the manga (how lucky).

Director Fumihiko Sori says the biggest challenge he faces is adapting the 27 volume series into a single film but plans to “create a style that follows the original manga as much as possible.”

The story follows brothers Edward and Alphonse Elric, both of which are caught in a failed alchemist ritual, causing Edward to lose an arm and a leg, while Alphonse loses his whole body. Edward then becomes a state alchemist in hopes of finding the Philosopher’s Stone, which is the only thing that can restore their bodies.

The live-action Fullmetal Alchemist movie is set to premiere on 1 December 2017.
